Great news! China Camp State Park is open daily! Agreements between state officials and Friends of China Camp (FOCC) prevented a July 1, 2012 closure of China Camp.
FOCC have plans and financing and an operational agreement nailed down. Please support them as they now are operating China Camp, working with CA State Park’s Marin District. FOCC plans to expand and improve services and programs for park users.
China Camp now has an operational budget of about $500,000 a year. This pays for a ranger along with maintenance and administrative staff. State Parks people are still running the park. The personnel costs will come to about $200,000. The ranger salary and costs (including a vehicle and other items) comes to about $125,000. Maintenance employees and equipment add up to $75,000.
To offset costs, there will be slight fee increases for visitors and a stronger push to see that the fees, sometimes overlooked in past years, are dutifully collected.
A grassroots effort to raise $250,000 by July 1 succeeded, and some supporters have made key donations. FOCC has garnered more than 1,100 members.
Please consider joining FOCC. China Camp needs your support as much ever in these uncertain times.
