Ecosystem Services with Dr. Michael Vasey

Dr. Michael Vasey, Director of the SF Bay National Estuarine ResearchGWC Monthly Meeting Reserve (SF Bay NERR) and Romberg Tiburon Center for Environmental Studies, will give a presentation on Ecosystem Services; what they are and how they relate to tidal wetland projects in the SF Bay Estuary. He will focus on the Gallinas Creek watershed and NERR’s collaboration with the Duke University study on Ecosystem Services.

Join Mike as he introduces a formal definition of ecosystem services and then explores how this concept might generally be applied to decisions regarding tidal wetland restoration projects in the San Francisco Estuary. This will lead to an open discussion concerning the McInnis marsh restoration project and how an understanding of ecosystem services might be of value as a way of informing future decision-making in the Las Gallinas Creek watershed. Mike will also elaborate on the Duke ecosystem services study and seek feedback from members of the watershed council that could help inform this project.

The GWC Board meets on the first Wednesday of the month in the Community Room of the Northgate Mall. Enter by the mall Food Court; turn R immediately; follow corridor to elevator; go to 2nd floor. Meetings are from 7 – 9 pm and everyone is welcome. We discuss matters of interest concerning our local creek and bay area watersheds.

See You in the Watershed!
