Sesame Street’s Big Bird was under attack last week as a symbol for government sponsored public broadcasting.
Another big bird named Clapella made local news as a government protected endangered species under attack by wetland development.
Clapella and her friends staged a protest in front of San Rafael City Hall.
The story was carried as far as Silicon Valley where it entertained San Jose Mercury News readers.
Closer to home the San Rafael Patch reported on it in their article “Sports Complex Critics and 10-Foot Clapper Rail Rally in Front of Library.”
Bay Area Sports reporter Barry Tompkins was so impressed by Clapella and her creative protest that he started to reminisce about protesting back in the Sixties.
We are very grateful for the San Rafael City Council for making all their meetings available online in video format. You can see Clapella the giant clapper rail with her giant presence at this meeting in the City Council video.
